BETTY WINN & ONE A-CHORD GOSPEL SINGERS
Betty Winn and One A-Chord perform a range of gospel works with spiritual content that is compatible with the groups Christian beliefs. Singing is an inspiring avocation to the ladies who are all outstanding members of the New Orleans gospel community. They are a source of inspiration to other performers of this music and a blessing to those who hear them.
One A-Chord Gospel Singers was organized by Betty and the late Thomas Winn in April 1995. The group started as an all female ensemble with modest accompaniment. However, Betty Winn and One A-Chord has evolved to include male vocals and a full band with keyboard, guitars, percussion and brass instrumentation. One A-Chord performs mostly frequently with eight vocals in close three part harmony. However, the extended choir has grown tremendously and often presents as many as 30 vocalists of male and female voices with band
accompaniment. This flexibility extends their repertoire to include the range of gospel sounds, including Negro spirituals, classic traditional hymns and the inspirational works heard in modern day Sunday church services.
BETTY WINN
Betty is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She studied instrumental and vocal music as extra curricular activities in high school and college. Her love of gospel music comes for her roots in the Baptist church in New Orleans. Betty has performed with and directed many local ensembles. She was a New Orleans Public School teacher for 21 years. She retired from teaching to devote more time to sharing gospel music.
Ballad of Belief
One A-Chord maintains an active schedule in New Orleans and abroad. They perform frequently at church programs, festivals, theaters, conventions, and supper clubs in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana. They have been a favorite at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival since their inception. One A-Chord has performed gospel tours in Germany, Spain and Switzerland, Italy, France and several Caribbean Islands
